nostalgia

The Deadwood Stage
"The wheels go turnin' round, homeward bound,
Can't you hear 'em humming,
Happy times are coming for to stay - hey!"
Song from 'Calamity Jane': 'The Deadwood Stage'

goodbye, Syd

"Hear the lark and harken to the barking of the dogfox
gone to ground.
See the splashing of the kingfisher flashing to the water
and the river of green is sliding unseen beneath the trees
laughing as it passes thru' the endless summer making for the sea."

Words by Roger Waters, from Grantchester Meadows.

illogorrheic landscape

Title derives from an article on 'podfading' (ie, diminishing output from initially enthusiastic podcasters) at 43 Folders.

Here, it means:
"This is a landscape, I can find no other words to describe it."

ideal woman

We loved her once but,
over the millennia and with
the coming of Vogue magazine,
the bikini and supermarkets,
we think we've forgotten her.
But she's there -
an archetype in our subconscious.

These Stone Age figures, called 'Venuses',
made 20 to 30,000 years ago,
are reckoned to have been fertility symbols.

This one was photographed in the Evoluon, Philips' Science Museum in Eindhoven, Holland
(it's now a conference centre).
If you click on 'History' after picking a language on the
Evoluon page, and scroll down a bit, you'll see a promo video for the Evoluon as it was.
At 1:44 and at 9:02, you can spot this lady.

pink inside

Do you like pink?
I should think
you should.

Whatever your hide,
you're pink inside,
just like me.

This is a knock at the stupidity of skin-colour prejudice. It was inspired by the pimps in Egyptian ports who, apparently, used to tout their girls to UK sailors with the call: "Pink inside, just like English."

mona lisa smile

concentric profiles with toroidal panel

I think of this as a multiplied-and-spun version of the idea of Renato Bertelli when he created Continuous Profile of Mussolini in 1933.

Except this is not Mussolini. Somewhere back along the track, prior to all mutations, it was the Mona Lisa.

Some theories on the 'elusive', 'enigmatic' smile:
It's the noise.
It's your eyes.
It's her mood.
It's various possibilities.

And about the Continuous Profile of Mussolini.

More recently, the idea has been used for George Bush.
