And purple heart and purple wings. Glorious. Rumi would have liked this. Going on my (long) list of fav's.

I do like the sound of 'pur-plip' though.

Thanks for Rumi, Ysabel. I did not know his writings: now delighted by them.

"Body of earth, don't talk of earth
Tell the story of pure mirrors
The Creator has given you this splendor -
Why talk of anything else?"

"We are the mirror as well as the face in it.
We are tasting the taste this minute
of eternity. We are pain
and what cures pain, both. We are
the sweet, cold water and the jar that pours."

"The beauty of the heart
is the lasting beauty:
its lips give to drink
of the water of life.

Truly it is the water,
that which pours,
and the one who drinks.

All three become one when
your talisman is shattered.

That oneness you can't know
by reasoning."

"Today, like every other day, we wake up empty
and frightened. Don't open the door to the study
and begin reading. Take down the dulcimer.

Let the beauty we love be what we do.
There are hundreds of ways to kneel and kiss the ground."

And three others by the Sufi poet:

"A white flower grows in the quietness.
Let your tongue become that flower."

*

"Move outside the tangle of fear-thinking.
Close both eyes to see with the other eye.
No one is grown up except those full of desire.
If you lift the baggage rightly, it will give joy."

"Be a connoisseur and taste with caution.
Hear blessings dropping their blossoms around you. God.
Is weeping speech?"

These three excerpts were a big help to me a while ago. I particularly like "If you lift the baggage rightly, it will bring joy."

Rumi's father was also a great poet.
